IN HER WORDS
"I am primarily an abstract painter, and color is my tool of choice. I am attracted to the use of bold and colorful palettes and typically emphasize energetic, animated brushstrokes."

Painter, sculptor, and textile artist, Claire Desjardins is a triple threat talent. Based an hour north of Montreal, Quebec, Desjardins lives in the country with her husband and two pups. Situated between a lake and a forest, her inspiration springs from the natural surroundings around her.

“I love organic shapes and the vivid colors of wildflowers that bloom. I also spend much time in my half-wild flower gardens, observing my perennials, as they bloom and fade. There is even beauty in their decay,” she shares.

Celebrated for her vibrant palettes and abstract work, Desjardins expounds on her specialties, saying, “I am primarily an abstract painter, and color is my tool of choice. I am attracted to the use of bold and colorful palettes and typically emphasize energetic, animated brush strokes. I paint—mostly large scale— using acrylic paints and I like the colors to reach out and speak to the viewers. At the moment, I’m enjoying playing around with color field principles; I create steel sculptures and work in textile arts, as well!”

Desjardins’ clients span the spectrum from Shutterfly and Anthropologie—where she worked extensively with Collab Society’s Jennifer Rome—to Samsung and Microsoft, but two career accomplishments stand out to Desjardins the most. The first one was in 2019 where she shares that “in collaboration with Anthropologie, myself and three other artists were sent to Art Basel Miami. We painted miscellaneous merchandise that was sold in a pop-up gallery in the design district and created a video on the hotel rooftop; it was a dream come true!”

Desjardins’ second proud moment was being awarded a commission for public art by The Sarasota Modern Hotel. “A large 26-foot by 30-foot mural is being powder-printed onto aluminum panels that will be affixed to the side of the hotel and lit up at night!” she shares.

An avid world traveler, Desjardins enjoys surrounding herself with various cultures. “The sights, the sounds, the food, the people—it’s all so interesting,” she says “and creates a fabric of inspiration to work from.”
