IN HER WORDS
"I collaborate in many ways and on many levels in my design practice but when it comes to product design, I team with companies that have similar values in design, quality, marketing plans and ways of inspiring customers."

Sibella Court’s style is reminiscent of a storybook,
drawing on the past (and the curious treasures it procures) and far-flung travels across the globe. She’s a woman of many talents: interior & product designer, creative director, author, globetrotter, and content creator. Originally from Sydney, Australia, Court spent 10 years of her career in New York, working with the city’s most prestigious brands like Bergdorf Goodman, Anthropologie, Saks Fifth Avenue, and Donna Karan.

Court boasts a keen ability to take a product from start to finish, like the hardware line she developed at Anthropologie with Jennifer Rome, co-founder of Collab Society. She reminisces on that experience, describing Rome as, “a great communicator, consistent, and thorough.” Her talent for taking a vision from start to finish shines through the many projects and clients she’s worked with over the years. “I collaborate in many ways and on many levels in my design practice,” Court shares, “but when it comes to product design, I team with companies that have similar values in design, quality, marketing plans and ways of inspiring customers.”

Court’s design studio and retail shop, The Society Inc. features decorative hardware & home accessories from around the world curated by Court. Each piece is inspired by her globetrotting adventures, a love of forgotten trades, and appreciation for humble materials.

She explains her process, saying, “I always have a design or collection in mind when approaching a manufacturer that is designed by myself and The Society Inc. team. This design most often stems from what I cannot find in the market and would like to use in all my own interior projects. We then pass over our designs to be workshopped for materials and construction with the manufacturer. It is with great joy when the finished products hit the market with great reception!”

These days, Court calls Bundeena home, a coastal town south of Sydney that’s rife with rock pools and eucalyptus. Together with her husband Ben and their six-year-old daughter, Silver, she lives in a weatherboard home among all of her found treasures—vintage sinks, sea shells, stained glass, oil paintings. Her own collection of wallpaper graces the old home’s walls, inspired (of course) by her grandmother.
